    A Day in ...

We have a Ferry in Florida!

key-west-ferryWho would have thought that us people on the West Coast of Florida can avoid the dreaded US1 road and 7+ hour’s drive to get to sunny Key West! Well … here I am going to tell you how!   My dear friend from Switzerland came to visit me in Tampa in November.  I spent days researching what could we do besides Busch Gardens or Universal Studios.  In my extensive search to find something that will impress my lovely friend, as she comes from such a beautiful country, I came across the Key West Express.  Pardon my ignorance but I had no idea that there was a Ferry in Florida! Bay Walk in Downtown St. Petersburg Friday Night Wine & Music

Bay Walk is continuing its popular Friday Night Wine & Music Series in 2010 starting Friday, February 19 from 6-9 p.m.

This free event is open to the public and will continue through November on every third Friday of every month. The event always features live jazz music in the courtyard. Wine is sold for $3 per glass with 100% of the proceeds going to a different charity each month. This month’s charity is the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross for the earthquake victims of Haiti.

Although Bay Walk has seen it’s struggles with the difficult economy, it is still one of our favorite places to go. Tokyo Sushi Café has some of the best sushi in town and the prices are quite reasonable. White House Black Market is an addiction for my girlfriend, there’s Game Stop for the gamers, and of course, you always have the latest movies at Muvico.

    Perricone’s Marketplace & Café

    By Gary J. Arzt

A little more then a decade ago, Steve Perricone had a dream. He wanted to convert a home, sitting on S. E. 10th Street, just west of Brickell Avenue (built in the early part of the 20th century) into a restaurant. I shan’t dwell on the results of that effort, save to say that the idea ‘collapsed around him.’ Undeterred, Steve left for Vermont, where he found and dismantled a barn built around 1700. The patina of age, of the beams, flooring and walls have added to the comfort, charm and hominess of Perricone’s - a restaurant that is filled with local businessmen, the idle rich and people passing through town on business or as tourists.

She is a wonderful southern lady who has for years shared her joy of Butterfly Gardening with others. Southern Living magazine once referred to her as, “Georgia’s Butterfly Lady.” This workshop will take place at the Gardener’s Cottage.
Fees: The program is free with paid park admission.
    Contact: (850) 487-4115
