Paddler’s Picnic August 22

city-of-inverness-1(Inverness, Fla.) -Join the City of Inverness and Aardvarks Florida Kayak Company on Aug. 22 for the 1st annual Paddler’s Picnic.

From 10 am – sunset at Liberty Park and Wallace Brooks Park, skill demonstrations will be offered, along with a slalom course, safety inspections, Do It Yourself invention showcase and other activities. A sunset kayaking trip on Lake Henderson will wrap up the day.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Chris Siegfried of Where the Wild Things Are in Dunnellon, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. As part of the Paddlers For Plasma drive, Life South Community Blood Centers will have the Blood Mobile on site at Wallace Brooks for donations.

Kayakers can bring their picnic lunch or enjoy Italian ice, hotdogs and hamburgers courtesy of Calypso Creations of Beverly Hills, which is donating 25% of profits to the cause.

Participants can learn more about the sport and enter a raffle for a chance to win a Wenonah Fisherman Royalex canoe or other items. Kayakers can also put their abilities to the test in the slalom course where racers will compete for the best times.

Liberty Park is located at 286 N. Apopka Ave., Inverness; Wallace Brooks is located at 328 E. Dampier Street, Inverness.
