Historical museum of southern Florida offers free admission on Smithsonian magazine’s 5th annual museum day

A celebration of culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian’s Museum day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Washington, DC-based Smithsonian properties. Doors will be open free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.

The Home Depot Staff to Make a Major Splash at Clearwater Marine Aquarium

Saturday, September 19 (the media is invited to come out for video, photos and interviews between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.)

Clearwater Marine Aquarium (located at 249 Windward Passage on Island Estates)

About 50 volunteers from The Home Depot will come to Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) to volunteer their time to help make some needed repairs. Volunteers will help renovate the otter exhibit, paint picnic tables, renovate an outdoor shed and much more. This project has been made possible through Home Depot.

Aquarium and City Agree to New 30-Year Contract

DEP Announces Stimulus Loan for City of Sanford Wastewater Facility

Elusive Blockade Runner Found Near Downtown Tampa

(Sept. 15, 2009) – The Florida Aquarium has spent the last four years researching and actively searching for James McKay’s confederate blockade runners burned in 1863 during the Civil War. The burning of these vessels by Union soldiers, along with a third ship scuttled by the Confederates, led to the skirmish at Ballast Point, Tampa’s only battle of the Civil War.

Inverness named City of the Year

The Forty and Eight veterans organization presented the award Friday morning to city officials in Rochester, NY at its annual general membership meeting. This award comes after Inverness was presented one in June as part of the organization’s state competition.
